Potsticker Noodles

potsticker noodlesI have to admit that I really love Asian food. I crave it a lot, but I know the salt (even with low sodium gluten free soy sauce) isn’t ideal and actually for my system, soy isn’t even the best. So, I try not to cave in too often. But, I saw this recipe on Iowa Girl Eats for potsticker noodles and had to try it.

I followed the recipe exactly, with these additions: I added a tsp of sesame oil to the canola oil for cooking the pork and a couple sprinkles of garlic powder to the combined dish in the final cooking stage. I also used the bag of already shredded tri-color coleslaw mix that I picked up at Safeway.

It made a lot more than I thought it would so I ended up cooking it in the dutch oven, so I didn’t quite get the “stir-fry” texture to the noodles, but they still taste good. I think next time I would definitely add a couple more cloves of garlic and a dash or two more of red pepper flakes. Plus, I was at the end of the bottle of sesame oil, but I wonder if a bit more of that might be tasty as well. I think before eating you could easily hit it with some siracha sauce or maybe sweet chili sauce for a different taste/bit of zing. [I added sweet chili sauce on the next bowl I had and that added some good heat and flavor.]

And, if pork isn’t your thing, you could totally do this with ground chicken, ground turkey or even ground beef — or just go meatless and add other veggies, like mushrooms and red peppers.
